The Mount, Edith Wharton's Home

Over the years, The Mount has transformed from a traditional historic house museum into a vibrant cultural center. Visitors can enjoy year-round literary and artistic programming that captivates the senses. Executive director Susan Wissler talks about this transformation in this interview with Jason Brown. The Mount is one of the top destinations in the Berkshires, and is a must-see for any tourist in the area. Call your friends and family to visit this amazing destination at 2 Plunkett St, Lenox, MA 01240.

Edith Wharton designed The Mount in Lenox, Massachusetts, in the early twentieth century. In her time, the estate was a popular retreat for the world's upper class. Unfortunately, for many decades, it was not kept in the best condition, and the residents were insensitive to its deteriorating condition. However, a nonprofit organization recently purchased the property, ensuring that the landmark can be restored and reopened to the public.

The Mount is a National Historic Landmark and cultural center dedicated to the legacy of American author Edith Wharton. The estate features a classic Main House, a Georgian Revival Stable, and sculpted gardens. It has over 50,000 visitors each year. Learn more about this here. The Mount offers tours of the house and gardens and offers exhibits on Wharton's life and humanitarian work. The Mount also hosts lectures, literary panels, and dramatic readings.

The Mount was a home to Edith Wharton, who lived in the house from 1902 to 1911. Today, the property is owned by Edith Wharton Restoration Inc., which was founded by Wharton herself. The Mount is now a cultural center and historic house museum. In the 1920s, The Mount was a popular destination for celebrities and writers.

It is not entirely clear where the ghost of William Shakespeare resides, but several people have reported seeing him in the house. He frequently reads in the parlor and other favorite places. His ghost has even appeared in the bedroom where Edith often reads to herself. In a sense, the ghost may be her childhood fear of the dark, or her own feelings from ghost stories.
